Empowering Users with Time Management and Content Preferences on Instagram
Instagram has always been about sharing, connecting, and discovering. But we also understand the need for personal space and focus in our busy lives. That's why we're excited to roll out our latest feature - 'Quiet Mode'.
Imagine you're neck-deep in study material, or perhaps just unwinding after a long day, and your phone buzzes with another notification. It's tempting, isn't it? To just take a peek? We've all been there. To help, we've designed 'Quiet Mode'. It's our little way of saying, "Take a break, you deserve it!"
Your Personal Time, Respected
Once you activate 'Quiet Mode', we'll quietly tuck away your notifications, let your friends know you're taking some "me-time" through an activity status, and if someone slides into your DMs, we'll send them a nifty auto-reply.
Especially for our younger audience, balancing school and social life can be a juggle. So whether it's during intense study sessions or ensuring a good night's sleep, 'Quiet Mode' can adapt to suit individual routines. And should you worry about missing out? Once you're back, a neat summary awaits, ensuring you're always in the loop.
Currently, our friends in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can start using 'Quiet Mode', with more countries joining the quiet brigade soon!
Curate Your Content, Your Way
But that's not all. We're also handing over the reins to the content you see on your feed. Say you're on a diet and even the sight of a delicious brownie might make you wobble. Or perhaps, you've had one too many workout videos for the day. We've got you!
Now, you can simply let us know which posts aren't up your alley, and we'll ensure that similar content doesn’t pop up elsewhere, be it Reels, Search, or any corner of Instagram. Even better? Customize your experience further by blocking specific words, emojis, or hashtags. Whether it's "gym" or "sweets", simply set your preferences, and we'll handle the rest.
Conclusion
Our constant endeavor at Instagram is to make your experience pleasant, personalized, and devoid of unnecessary distractions. We hope these new tools help you craft an Instagram journey that's uniquely yours. Happy browsing!
Innovative Methods to Control Your Content Suggestions
Our aim is to provide users with greater control over the content displayed on Instagram, so we are launching new features that enable users to indicate the content they prefer not to be recommended.
Firstly, you can now opt to conceal multiple items in Explore that do not pique your interest simultaneously. Furthermore, when you select "Not interested" on a post within Explore, we will strive to prevent displaying similar content in other areas where we offer recommendations, such as Reels, Search, and more.
Furthermore, although you can currently hide comments and direct messages containing specific words, we are extending this feature to encompass recommended posts you may encounter throughout Instagram. Add a word or a set of words, emojis, or hashtags that you want to avoid – such as "fitness" or "recipes" – and we will endeavor to cease recommending content containing those words in the caption or hashtag. You can find this feature in the Suggested Content section of Settings.
